Spearheaded by Bislig Committee for the Welfare of Special Persons, the annual Summer Kamp ParaISO was held at the Saint Bro. Miguel Center for Recollection and Training, San Roque, Bislig City. Loving Presence Foundation Inc. led by BOT Margie Garay and its staffs chaired finance committee and directed the entire camp activity. About 175 individuals joined the week long activity including the 45 special children and youth coming from the different municipalities and cities of the Caraga Region.
The Summer Camp lasted for 5days. It was packed with fun through the different sports, art makings,Theater plays, foster parents day and a lot more that surely enhanced the special children’s skills, talents, and spirit of Talents and spirit of camaraderie which helped them develop self confidence.
Indeed, the entire event once again became very instrumental especially when it came to creating awareness in the society that these special children also have the same right like any other normal children. They too, must enjoy the gift of life and be given a chance to be independent, self-reliant and develop positive attitudes towards self and towards community as a whole. Families should be very thankful for having a special kid, because these kids do not bring misfortunes or a problems but rather a source of good luck to them.
Through this Annual Kamp ParaISO, with the help of the precious time extended by the ates and kuyas, different offices of the government and non-government and non-government and private individuals of Bislig City most of the special kids who participated in the said activity have now developed and performed well in their daily lives. Their talents and their ways of interacting with peers have been developed too. On the first day of the camp, most of them never wanted anybody to go near them, but later on all of them gave their best in every activities given to them.
This 6th year of the Summer Kamp ParaISO would not have been successful without the full support of the Bislig City Local Government Unit through Mayor Alberto M. Tan, who shouldered the food of about 175 participants; the Liliane Fond Philippines Bislig City, LGUs of Trento, San Francisco, Sibagat, St a. Josefa and Rosario, that facilitated participation of their special children;
private individuals and businesses of Bislig who were very kind enough to share goodies, used clothing, etc. that were used as gifts and prizes to the kids, to the community of the Forest Drive Village especially the St. Joseph the Worker Parish for giving their full support and lastly to Vice-Gov. Lib Navarro who shouldered the hundreds of t-shirts distributed during the camp.were used.
Although this summer camp is not the answer to the current problems and issues concerning persons with disabilities it somehow complete…. the special children an opportunity to enhance social life. The Summer Kamp let them discover the real real beauty of life despite their impairments.
