The newly trained one hundred six (106) barangay health workers of San Miguel, Tandag City, Lanuza and Madrid, who serve now as LGUs’ community-based rehabilitation (CBR) volunteers for persons with disabilities (PWDs), are on the move to identify PWDs in their respective communities which they later refer to their respective LGUs and to the foundation for appropriate attention and prioritization of needs. Since they started their voluntary services many PWDs, who have been suffering from different disability problems, have shown dramatic development in their lives upon accessing various rehabilitation activities such as medical consultations, surgeries, eye and ear screening, educational assistance, eyeglasses dispensing, and other rehabilitation activities, which is available either in the locality or in other places. 

CBR Volunteers have gained more skills in working with PWDs when their Local Government Units, headed by their city/municipal mayors, MSWDOs, MHOs, and the barangay captains, recommended them to attend the basic training course which was conducted on April 16-18, 2008 at Multi-Purpose building (Municipality of San Miguel – 23 participants), July 15-17, 2008 at Season’s Park Apartelle (Tandag City –  23 participants), July 29-31, 2008 at HE Building, Florita H. Irizari National High School (Municipality of Lanuza – 36 participants), and August 20-22, 2008 at CLCD Café (Municipality of Madrid – 24 participants).

LPFI and LGUs have complemented each other’s very limited financial and human resources in making all the events possible for the welfare of the underprivileged persons with disabilities, especially those  who are living in remote places.
